The selection procedure for the officer in the Armed Forces is elite and unique. You might have heard about the “interview of 5 days” (informal language) somewhere. This is known as the SSB (Service Selection Board) Interview.

On summarizing, any person who wants to join Indian Armed forces as an officer has to go through this 5 days interview process known as SSB. To appear in SSB or to get the call-up letter of the interview, you must meet the required eligibility criteria.

There are various entries to join Defence. Those who qualify these exams after graduation will get the call-up letter of SSB Interview.

  • CDS (Combined Defence Services): Exam conducted by UPSC, 2 times, every year. Consist of 3 papers (English, Mathematics, and General Science). Candidate can join any Training academy through this exam.
  • AFCAT: This exam is conducted by the Indian Air Force.
  • INET: This is the Indian Navy Entrance test.

NCC Special Entry: Direct Entry (No exam required)

Other direct entries for engineering graduates where no written exam is required are UES (University Entry scheme), TGC, SSC- Tech, etc. Only a percentage or CGPA is required. Those who qualify the cutoff can get the call-up letter very easily.
