Hesitation

The
pages of history always glorify those who persevered, those who fought
their way out, those who believed in themselves. The world has been
shaped by the brave, the strange and the fools…

If I stand today, at any place, and randomly ask a person a question, however simple it may be, they would always take a moment before answering. And I even tried it, in my class. I would randomly talk to people and suddenly ask them what they had for breakfast. And none of them answered instantaneously! When I asked their close friends to repeat the experiment for me, they replied surprisingly fast. And I have reached the conclusion that it isn’t that they couldn’t remember what they had, it’s just that they were being conscious of their surroundings, thinking about the consequences even before making the statement, or in other words, they were hesitant, a trait that does more harm than good.

“What will the people think about me?” “Would they make fun of me?” “How would everyone else react?” These are the questions that have killed more dreams than everything else combined! Revolutionary ideas are conceptualized every waking moment in each and every one of our minds, ideas that would completely change the way we see the world, ideas that would make our lives easier. But we commit the grave sin of asking ourselves the aforementioned questioned, and even before we can think upon it properly, it gets trampled under the enormous weight of those capricious questions. It is not always possible to ignore them all. But I can say from experience, there is a way out of this quicksand which engulfs all dreams, it is for us to flock together.

Me, you, every one of us is different, with different aspirations, dreams, skills and will power. In other words, we are all birds of different feathers. But even then, there are people who are just like us, of the same feather. And when birds of the same feather flock together, no idea seems impossible. There is this concept in physics, called resonance, which says that when two waves of the same characteristics overlap, they resonate, that is that they vibrate much more than before. And the same happens to us too. If I find someone who shares the same interest as me, both of us benefit, owing to the exchange of ideas that add onto each other, making it better.

The pages of history always glorify those who persevered, those who fought their way out, those who believed in themselves. The world has been shaped by the brave, the strange and the fools, and never by the people who said that it can’t be done, and tried to pull them down. When Elon Musk wanted to start his own space exploration company, people laughed at him, made fun of him, and even went to the extent of allowing any trade with him. But he didn’t listen to all those people, and in March 2002, he started SpaceX, one of the most advanced space exploration companies ever constructed, and now regularly carries payloads for even government agencies from all across the world. All of it, because he believed in his own idea. And I believe each and every one of us can achieve greatness, if we can just silence the unnecessary voices that plague us, and listen to the one feeble voice that keeps repeating, “I can do it!”
