What is a boring lecture? A boring lecture for you is one that you may not find interesting or it may be of the subject you know very well or you don’t know at all and don’t even want to learn it. There are two ways to tackle the lecture. The first, bunking that particular lecture, which is also the easiest one. And second, a bit tougher, to attend it and learn something of it.

As Robert Frost said,

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –

I took the one less travelled by,

And that has made all the difference.”

Majority of the people will choose to bunk the class as it is the easier road to take. But the other group will attend the class and keep make themselves ahead of others. To all the members of the first group: don’t regret later. So here come a few tips to make the large lecture more interesting and paving your way to success. Obviously, for that, you need to enrol yourselves in the second group and keep away from the first one.

  • READ BEFOREHAND

read beforehandObviously, it is not required to thoroughly understand what you are reading, but still as you have read it earlier, you will connect to what your teacher says in the lecture and each and every time you hear the teacher telling a particular term, you will recognize it instantly as you are already familiar with it. In this way, you will always stay alerted and will not miss the topics due to boredom.

  • SEATING MATTERS

Always try to be in the front rows so that you are properly visible to the teacher. In this way, you will be able to maintain direct contact with the teacher. And no one dares to sit in the front benches and doze off or be lost in his/her own wonderland, right? Following this point will help you get cent per cent attention and nothing will go over your head. Also, choose your seat partners wisely. You don’t want a partner who is planning a DJ night party or an outing plan when you want to focus on your studies.

  • TAKE NOTES

read beforehandNow, that’s a must if you want to excel in academics. It’s quite often seen that the teacher provides information in the class that is not mentioned in the books. No one can remember everything that is mentioned in the class. So, what you need to do is to make use of the two great inventions, the pen and the paper. Using your hand simultaneously with your brain also increases your concentration and gives you an extra edge over others as you are noting some extra information that others are letting go.

  • CONTRIBUTE IN THE CLASS

Not just sitting quietly and noting, the teacher will always ask questions to you; answer them. Don’t wait for others to do it. Yes, you may feel shy, you may feel insulted if your answer is wrong. Remember that you are not in a press conference. It doesn’t matter if you are wrong. If you ever feel insulted, remember, that other persons in the class are your classmates and don’t know more than you do. Came across a doubt? Ask it, don’t suppress it. Remember the teacher will never feel annoyed if you ask questions, rather he /she would be pleased with you and this will create a positive attitude of you in his mind.

  • HYDRATE YOURSELF

hydrateDrink a lot of water. This will help you in two ways. First being hydrated will help your brain to focus more and grasp things more efficiently. Secondly, it will distract you for a minute or so in the process of bringing the bottle out of your bag, opening the cap, drinking water and then reversing the process. Again you will get a fresh surge of energy and concentration to start afresh.
