Life in a Girls’ Hostel

Have you ever wondered, “What goes on inside a girls’ hostel?” Girls in a hostel have their own share of fights, care, frights, sharing, fun, and entertainment. Here are a few things that inevitably happen inside every girls’ hostel.

  1. Talking….like a lot! (About everything possible on the planet)

We have a world outside texting and have our own unlimited talking sessions that extend to the middle of the night. It’s not called gossiping; it’s just sharing really important information because it is impossible not to know literally EVERYTHING about your roommate.

  1. Staying awake all night and watching everything on your laptop back to back.

Let it be movies, web series, dance shows, talk shows, award ceremonies and what not. In every language possible!!

  1. Cooking exotc stuff in the electric kettle.

We start with planning to make chilli vegetable rice and sweetcorn pasta and watch all the video tutorials online and end up cooking instant noodles aka Maggi.

  1. Major selfie-clicking sessions. (single and groupies)

Getting dressed-up to putting-on makeup- for clicking TONS of selfies, just to get that one perfect picture that has to be posted online. And we tend to explore new places to click them; in our room, the neighbour’s room, garden, near that tree, near this, near that!!

  1. Beauty treatments, self-pampering, trying on clothes.

Practising tying sarees, trying each-others’ costumes, makeup etc. Not to forget those mani-pedi sessions that are major bonding factors in a girls’ hostel.

  1. Preparation and execution of  birthday surprises for friends.

And being very secretive about them because the birthday girls are always around. Arranging for the party at someone else’s room and then acting and making lame excuses to direct your friends to that room at twelve in the night because a wish not delivered at exactly 12 a.m. is no wish at all!!

  1. Criticizing the mess food and rules.

And then collecting every penny you saved to order a yeasted flatbread generally topped with tomato sauce and cheese and baked in an oven, commonly topped with a selection of vegetables and condiments…. I mean PIZZA 😉

  1. Making the room prettier.

Most of us really achieve the dream room in this case, decorating it with photographs, handmade things like flowers, butterflies, paintings, doodles and even rice lights.

To all the girls reading this: An all-girls’ hostel may not give as much freedom as a boys’ hostel and you might feel angry and frustrated at all the rules and restrictions, but the trick is to make the best of your time in the hostel. See what you are missing out and how you can make memories worth treasuring.

HOWEVER MUCH WE CRIB ABOUT HOSTEL LIFE..BUT WE STILL LOVE IT!! NOW YOU KNOW WHY!!
