Innovators at Lovely professional University have joined the worldwide tussle ever since the pandemic emerged in the world! B.Tech students of our university have developed a herbal mask using khus grass to fight this pandemic.

Intending to develop a mask that uses natural substances for air purification and anticipation of COVID-19, a team of students and professors from our university have come up with an antibacterial herbal mask that uses khus grass (vetiver) to purify the surrounding air and also strengthen the immunity of the user.

Students engaged in this great initiative are Narenthira Prasath D, Umeshwaran N, Uday Dubey and Professors – Himani Jerath, Professor, and School Adviser, Lovely Professional University; P. Raja, Professor, and Dushyant Kumar Singh, HoD, (Embedded System, College of Physics and Electrical Engineering) Lovely Professional University.

The mask has been developed employing a combination of 2 filters which will help you to purify and filter the air. the primary one could be a vetiver filter which serves as an antibacterial filter that purifies the air any person breathes through wearing this mask. The 2nd filter is the WHO recommended 10 PM filter that will ensure that no particulate matter enters while breathing. The mask is washable and you can wash this mask and utilise up to 3 months or more.

LPU researchers have developed the prototype for testing and have also filed for a provisional patent. The researcher team is now planning to commercialize herbal masks (poppy grass) in association with large industries that can easily manufacture it on a large scale. The production value of the mask is estimated to be around sixty rupees per mask once commercialized.

We proudly applaud their remarkable efforts and wish them all the best for this endeavour!
