“..young people right from the school levels are to be guided to conserve energy..” – Mr. Majithia

Minister Punjab, S Bikram Singh Majithia (New & Renewable Energy Sources, Revenue, Rehabilitation, Information & Public Relation), today, launched “Energy Conservation & Efficiency Campaign” for Punjab State School Children at Lovely Professional University (LPU). First of its kind, this program was targeted to train participating 1200+ school principals, science teachers & other educationists of Jalandhar & Kapurthala districts of Punjab. All of them are further required to train school-children of their respective schools to bring out a revolutionary change in conserving energy. For this participants were handed over energy saving kits having posters, stickers and other material for the guidance of the students. State School Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, who was Guest of Honour of the day, inspired the participants to be up to the expectations of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy of the state.

Ministry of Power (Government of India), Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) joined hands to organize the awakening program. The massive slogan “Energy is life conserve it” was carried throughout the inaugural and technical sessions of the seminar. Ministers of Punjab shared dais with Director Ministry of Power Mr PT Bhutia, Sr Energy Economist (BEE) Mr Sanjay Seth, Chief Executive (PEDA) Dr Amarpal Singh, Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal & Director (PEDA) S. Baloor Singh.

Addressing the intellectual class, Minister Majithia said: “This seminar is very important for next generation which is going to be the great user of fast depleting energy resources.  So, young people right from the school levels are to be guided to conserve energy. As students learn much from their teachers, we requested Education Minister Dr Cheema to help us in this drive and we are thankful to him that he acceded to our request by arranging massive participation. Now learning through technical sessions, we have to prepare young students as energy auditors to check and further guide others how to use energy sources in proper ways.” Explaining about the mammoth 30 megawatts solar energy establishment at Dera Beas near Amritsar, Mr Majithia also asked LPU Management to come forward to be a great contributing part for green and clean energy. He also appreciated the massive arrangements done for the seminar at LPU campus.

Minister Dr Cheema invoked all the educationists of the state: “This is a great opportunity for all of us at education department as another ministry of the state has sought our assistance. We have to be an important part of the campaign by shaping young minds to be the best energy savers, and revolutionary force in making the state clean and green.” Minister Cheema assured Minister Majithia that education department has great human force of nation builders and assured of reaching the target as assigned to it.

During the technical sessions, Additional Director Punjab State Council for Science & Technology Mr SK Jain, Accredited Energy Auditor Mr Pardeep Dhingra, and Energy Economist Mr Seth guided all the participants how to cope with the present situation. The technical authorities guided them about the usage and promotion of non-conventional energy to let the state and the nation emerge as clean and green.
