“Desire is the root cause of suffering.” – Buddha

I’m homeless, I should have a house.

.

I buy local, I should should buy brands.

.

I have a hatchback, I should have an SUV.

.

I have condo, I should have a bungalow.

.

I deal in thousands, I should deal in 5 figures.

.

I deal in 5, I should deal in 7 figures.

.

It’s not enough, I should be the richest in the city.

.

Cities are small, I should be the richest in the state.

.

Business should be so vast that I should be the richest in the country.

.

My country is third world, I should be the richest in the world.

.

Let me invest in a very profitable deal, which will double my wealth.

.

Let me be as rich as the rest of the world put together.

.

Let me be twice as rich as rest of the world put together.

If you choose this path, you’ll never be satisfied. Think again! Is this what you were aiming to do in life?

Satisfaction is more of a mind’s act than an eternal thing. It’s a soothing feeling of fulfilment due to a victory, an accomplishment, or an achievement. But often people are seen not satisfied even after achieving what they covet.. This is human nature.

Life satisfaction is something that motivates us to go on. It is actually the way an individual evaluates themselves based on what they wanted and what they have. Usually after achieving a certain goal in life, we think of the next big thing to achieve. It’s good to think big and accomplish more but to waste life away trying to accomplish as much as possible without stopping to enjoy the moment, is a sure road to discontent and unhappiness.

“Desires keep coming. Our brain is like a child, it wants every shiny thing it sees. Our brain wants sensation and excitement. If you become a slave to your desires, feeding sensation and excitement to your brain then you are only going to be in pain and sorrow most of the time.” – Shravan Mishra

You may wish to own a Mercedes, but it doesn’t matter if you have a Mercedes or not. Why attach your happiness to a Mercedes?

Even Buddha said, “Desire is the root cause of suffering”.

One must have control on his/her brain. It usually takes a lifetime of experience and suffering before we reach a state where our desires don’t rule us. But what if you woke into that realisation now, you could live those many more happy years.

Introspection is the key to enlightenment. Being told about something may plant an idea in the mind, but it takes root and flourishes only through the nurture of the soul. Simply put life is too short to keep running behind your desires. You need to rejoice in every little thing you have, every little achievement you’ve made. It’s your life, don’t be so hard on it.
