Lovely Professional University’s Human Resource Development Center, in collaboration with the School of Liberal and Creative Arts (Social Sciences & Languages), organized a six-day Short Term Course on Advanced English Language Skills from 17 February to 22 February, 2025. The course witnessed the enthusiastic participation including educators, professionals, and students, keen to enhance their command over English grammar, writing, and communication. The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sunaina Ahuja, Professor and Dean, Head-HRDC. LPU emphasized the growing importance of linguistic precision in today’s academic and professional spheres. Mr. Ajay Sharma, Head of the Department of Corporate Training, HRDC, LPU, outlined the training objectives and introduced the expert resource team leading the sessions.

Each day of the course was dedicated to a specialized theme of advanced English usage. Dr. Ajoy Batta, Professor and COS-School of Liberal and Creative Arts (Social Sciences and Languages), LPU, focused on verb tenses and aspects, helping participants understand the correct application and contextual significance of perfect tenses.

Dr. Girija Suri, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Amity University guided learners through advanced punctuation techniques to improve clarity and writing effectiveness. Dr. Batta trained participants in constructing complex and compound sentence structures. Practical exercises in sentence transformation and coherence techniques allowed participants to polish their writing fluency.

Dr. Sanjay Prasad Pandey, Professor, Department of English, LPU, provided an in-depth exploration of modal verbs, helping participants accurately express necessity, possibility, and probability in various contexts. Dr. Pandey focused on the intricacies of subject-verb agreement, a fundamental yet often misunderstood area of grammar. The final addressed advanced syntax and sentence structuring, equipping participants with a deeper understanding of how word order and syntax impact clarity and meaning in communication. Each session was designed to be interactive, allowing participants to apply their learning through real-life examples and exercises.

The course concluded with a post-training evaluation and a valedictory session organized by Team HRDC, where participants reflected on their learning experiences and submitted final projects that demonstrated their improved language skills. The feedback received was highly encouraging, with many appreciating the program’s structured approach and practical relevance. Overall, the Short Term Course on Advanced English Language Skills significantly contributed to the linguistic development of attendees, reinforcing LPU’s commitment to providing high-quality professional development opportunities that support academic and career advancement.
