The Automotive Engineering students of the School of Mechanical Engineering have done Lovely Professional University proud in another groundbreaking feat. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) & Society of Automotive Engineers India (SAE INDIA) organised six-day long ‘Formula Car Designing’ contest. LPU Mechanical Engineering students’ team named ‘Illuminati Racers’ clinched the 2nd position among fiercely competitive 126 teams from across India including from IITs and NITs of India.
More than 3000 students from various engineering colleges, participated in this event. ‘Supra SAEINDIA 2017’ contest held at the Buddha International Circuit, Greater Noida. The 6th Edition of the event provided the students with an expansive platform to showcase their innovative and futuristic designs.
The rules were laid down on international standards for all the participating teams. Their designs had to go through a tight scrutiny process as per the standards of SAE International. LPU team’s prototype also went through stringent levels of technical Inspection (Scrutiny, Tilt Test, Noise and Brake Test), Static events (Cost, Marketing & Design presentations), and Dynamic events (Acceleration, Skid pad, Autocross & Endurance).
The LPU team ‘Illuminati Racers’ landed in second place and was awarded a cash prize and winning trophy. Prof Gurpreet Singh Phull and Assistant Prof Sumit Kanchan guided the team of 25 Automotive Engineers into building the winning prototype. LPU Students’ Team Captain and Driver-1 Rishabh Shukla, and Vice-Captain and Driver-2 were Akshay Zerath.
During the honoring ceremony, Executive Advisor Maruti Suzuki India & Chairman Engineering Education Board (SAE India) Mr. I V Rao; President, SAEINDIA Dr. R K Malhotra; Executive Director (Engineering) Maruti Suzuki India & Chairman Supra 2017 Mr. C V Raman; and, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales) Maruti Suzuki India Mr. R S Kalsi graced the occasion to encourage the budding engineering students of the country coming up with all their skills and understanding on the subject.
