Every second three out of five girls in India are victims of cyberbullying with over a million of them targeted over Facebook alone.
Cyber-bullying can be categorically defined as the act of harming or harassing someone via information technology networks in a deliberate and intentional manner. This cyber crime is rising in frequency and intensity in direct proportion to the number of new social networks and avenues made available on the web. With numerous surveys and cases flooding in everyday in the name of the same, Cyber-Bullying is today being associated with serious consequences like anxiety, depression, mental breakdowns, and other adverse psychological effects. Here’s the best advice on what you should do, if you’re being cyberbullied:
- Do not respond, however angry or disturbed you are. Take someone responsible into confidence, immediately.
- Do not delete any communication. The shame is theirs not yours. You will need it all as evidence. Make copies in soft and hard.
- Block the bully after you have all the evidence.
- When you make complaints to law enforcement and ISPs, make sure to keep records of when and how, and copies of the actual complaint if possible.
