I look around me and all I can see are people just as confused as I am. I was a fresher just like everyone else I saw there. I’ve had my share of good days and my bad. Freshman year was a roller coaster ride and the journey to where I am right now is epic. I’m going to let you in on what I think might be helpful to take things into your hands.
- Don’t skip classes
Even if you don’t listen to anything they say or you aren’t interested, just go to the class and sit there. You will be getting marks for attendance and who wouldn’t want marks for free? Besides, you don’t even have to study late nights if you just pay attention to all your classes.
- Make use of clubs
Right from the beginning, there were friends and seniors telling me to join clubs and participate in events but I never took them seriously, at least not until my 2nd semester. It was only after joining a club that I overcame all of my stage fright and gained confidence. I made a whole lot of friends whom now I can proudly call family. I’ve gotten a lot of new opportunities like this one here to be writing an article for LPU happenings. Clubs bring out something that you never thought you were capable of doing and help you grow not only in the area of your interest but as a completely new person. Each club is unique in its own way and I’m sure you’ll find one which suits your interests and preferences.
- Don’t spend too much money
When you’re studying in a university as big as ours, it’s tempting to spend money on almost everything you see. There are events going on in our college almost every day. Save up some of your money and make use of it in participating in quizzes, marathons, competitions or doing a certified course in whatever interests you. By the end of your college year, you will have something in your hand to look back at.
- Eat healthy
Who doesn’t love food? Especially food that’s both pocket-friendly and scrumptious. There’s food for every mood here and with never-ending options, it’s hard to choose what’s healthy. Make sure to stay hydrated and take lots of protein as you’re going to have to make it through back to back classes. Avoid skipping meals as that’ll drain you of your energy and that is the last thing you want happening to you.
- Put an end to procrastination
Well, this one’s obvious. Whether it’s an assignment, submission or studying for an exam, don’t wait till the last minute. You’ll eventually feel bad for missing something or not remembering because you did it in the last minute in a hurry. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time while completing something as stressing just makes it worse.
- Try doing things on your own
Now that you’re in college, try doing stuff that you depend on your parents for like going to the bank or doing your laundry. These things will prepare you for life after college in the long run.
It’s completely normal to be shy in the beginning because everyone is new and the whole idea is a little scary but once you start and get to know the opportunities our college has to offer, there’s no stopping you. Make use of everything that comes your way and stays true to yourself.
You’ve got this!
