“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone” is the motto of the ‘SATHI’ organization, a humanitarian body keen on improving the quality of life of everyone it can reach out to.

As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility, Lovely Professional University has created the project ‘SATHI’ which recently adopted 10 nearby villages with a view to transform them into ‘Smart Villages’.

SATHI is the abbreviated form of Skills, Agriculture, Technology, Health, and Ideation, and those are the primary aims of the organization for the villages. The project is focussed on harnessing the untapped potential of these villages in every department so as to uplift the status of the village, and hence the society as a whole. The adopted villages are Nangal Majha, Salimpur, Maheru, Khajurla, Chaheru, Mehtan, Sapror, Ranipur, Barna and Madhopur in the Kapurthala district of Punjab. SATHI has already taken steps to transform the villages by undertaking a number of iniatives such as the bakery workshop in Khajurla, workshop on innovative farming practices in Maheru, energy saving workshop in Chaheru, health camp in Nangal Majha and ideation camp in Chaheru. In all, the organization has, so far, conducted 12 skills, 8 agriculture, 4 technology, 7 health, and 14 ideation camps all across these villages.

The project aims to give employment skill training at these villages, such as security guard training, fire fighter training, and training on enhancing the shelf life of home produce. Also they aim to bring more of their products to the market, such as dairy products, handicrafts and agricultural produce. In the long run, the organization is seeking Government collaboration for the development of roads, sanitation and so on. SATHI has a vision for these villages, and doesn’t plan on stopping until it is achieved – till the villages have become ‘smart’.
