Lovely Professional University, the most diverse and research-oriented university, organized a workshop especially for their Ph.D. students to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April 2019. The theme of the workshop was to work on the industry as well as product oriented ideas. In this regard eminent speakers were invited from the industry to share their views and how the industry is producing patented products for public use.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Lovi Raj Gupta, Executive Dean, Lovely Faculty of Technology and Sciences where he enlightened the students about the latest inventions of the present era. Starting from the shoelaces to aeroplane wings. He emphasized the students to observe the problems of the world and find out practical solutions to it. Mr. Davinder Singh Dosanjh, CEO, Mahindra HZPC enlighten the students on how his company is working with farmers for the production of potatoes and supplying potatoes to big chains like McDonald’s, etc. He also emphasized on the role of Intellectual Property for creating and circulation moolah in today’s world protecting the farmer’s rights.
Dr. Indira Dhumne, Senior Manager, Minitubers Facility, Mahindra HZPC also shared her experiences on how industry seeks solutions for the farmers to increase their productivity and market share. Manav Batra, General Manager, Max Tools and Polymers shared his experiences on how he was able to solve his problems of productions in his company from small observations and increase productivity.
The closing remarks were given by Dr. G Geetha, Dean Division of Research and Development where she laid emphasis on patents, copyrights, and design registrations. She told the students to keep the three Goddesses Saraswati (knowledge), Laxmi (Wealth), Durga (Protection) hand in hand through Intellectual Property and the right strategy to conquer the world.
The motive of the workshop was to motivate the Ph.D. scholars to come, think out of the box and give some solutions to social problems, as they are ones who will be working at length for a period of time on a specific problem. The speakers also visited the Project Expo held at Lovely Professional University where they saw the projects and prototypes being displayed by engineering students during their graduation and post-graduation studies. The speakers were enthralled to see the inquisitiveness of our students.
