To Let Go

There comes a time in our life when we are faced with a situation which is unimaginably difficult to forget or look the other way from. Though they say time heals everything, there are some things that live off our life. An experience, an encounter, a meeting, a situation sometimes becomes a tumor feeding off of our pain. We are all humans, and our capacity to experience extremely strong emotions clouds over our feelings till we begin to believe that we are incapable of letting go.

The heartbreaking experience of losing a loved one is the most painful moment a person has to live with. No words can soothe the pain of such souls. To see someone you have known for years fade away and disappear right in front of your eyes, to never again hear the voice of a beloved, a friend, a brother, a sister, a mother, a father, can lead to despair. One is overcome by an emotional disorientation where reality seems just another false hope passing by.

It’s never going to be easy to just let go. To just forget and live on is much easier said than done. Nothing can ever fill that hole that the passing of a loved one leaves in our life, and nothing will ever be enough to allow us to comprehend the reason for such situations. But no matter how hard we try to deceive ourselves of reality, life simply goes on. Life continues its phases, and time moves along with it.

One cannot simply ease such pain in an instant, but neither should one allow himself to live in that moment every day of his life. One step at a time is the way to let go, to allow ourselves a chance to face reality, to allow ourselves a chance to carry that pain in us a little less than yesterday. The steps we take may last days, months or years, but as long as we are giving ourselves a chance to go through the inevitable pain, one step at a time, that is all we can do.

To let go is one of the hardest things in life, and only when we understand the meaning of letting go, will we be able to feel our pain grow fainter, and understand that our love for that someone is much more than the pain inside of us. And eventually, we’ll be able to think of only the beautiful and wonderful memories we had shared, and every time we think about that someone, the pain in us will be easier to replace by our love for them.
