We are all familiar with the fact that most of our resolutions fall apart flat even as January starts and the most common reason is their unattainable and overwhelming nature. “I’ll study more this year” or “No more fast food” don’t work because they are as vague as they sound. Studies have proved that when approached in small steps our resolutions can change our lives immensely.
- Make clear and practical resolutions. Instead of saying “I’ll stop eating fast food” say “I’ll switch to organic and healthy snacks”. This way you’ll be able to transition easily.
- Break down your long term goals into chunks, and try achieving them in small steps.
- Write your resolutions down. Instead of just putting them in an app that you never open, just pin them somewhere you can see them every day.
- When you’ve finalised the list, just focus on one task first. It may seem overwhelming to do everything at once so avoid draining out yourself by taking on too much.
- Make your resolutions positive – No matter how much you hate the gym, think of its long term health benefits.
- Take Time – Studies reveal that it takes 21 days for a new habit to grow.
- Review your progress and you’ll know why you fail every year.
- No matter how insignificant your progress is, celebrate and treat yourself for trying.
I wish everyone a happy new year. Let’s hope this year we all change for the better.
