Let’s be honest here. We all are guilty of this if you are not counting those super-I-got-my-life-sorted people who do not have to face this burden that we do. Well, that’s totally not true. They do face the same difficulties, it’s just that they are good at overcoming it, while there are clueless people like us have no way to figure out what to do next. So here are a few ways to overcome procrastination and for once get things sorted without having worry about the last minute hurry.

  1. Know the consequences – You know if you don’t get that work done you are in for a huge load of trouble, for instance, take washing of clothes. We all have been there. Whether it be washing clothes ourselves or just giving it to the laundry. We all have at least once just given it up and thought let’s do this tomorrow. You know if you don’t do it, you won’t have clothes for the next time. Unless you are one of those amazing people who can wear soiled clothes after bathing yourself clean.
  2. Listen to your own excuses – Every time you make your mind to do something, a tiny voice in your heads tells you to give it up for today and to do it some other time. When you postpone it time and again, you keep repeating the same thing and it becomes a cycle. To break yourself out of it, you need to listen to the excuses forming in our head and think if I don’t do it now I will probably never do it again. So make up your mind.
  3. Force yourself in that productive situation – Usually, even if we make up our mind, we lack the motivation to get the task actually done. So, just force yourself to be in that position where you know once you go, then there is no coming back. Like, get yourself to the bathroom with clothes and you know you will wash as you have already have taken the first step. Can’t study? Sit with people who are studying and you will force yourself to study in order to not disturb them from studying and they can help you with the parts you don’t understand.
  4. Reward yourself – No matter how small you deem your accomplishment is, you need to reward yourself. It boosts your self-confidence and you perform better the next time and yes limit your distractions if possible.
  5. Don’t be hard on yourself – This is the thing we usually do with ourselves and then become frustrated over our lack of progress. We expect that the day we make a resolution to not procrastinate things will turn to the opposite in an instant. That’s not true. Even to learn to walk we take time, and learn to crawl first. You would be coming out of your long ago made stubborn habits which will definitely take time to change. So take your time and go at your own pace. That also doesn’t mean you become lazy in the name of taking time. After all, you can lie to everyone and anyone except yourself.
So gt out of your comfort zone, stop procrastinating and make yourself proud!
