Chief Electoral Officer (Punjab) Launched ‘sveeppunjab.in’ at LPU

Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab (CEO Pb), Shri V K Singh, IAS,  launched the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) Portal ‘sveeppunjab.in’ at Lovely Professional University today. In his address, CEO (Pb) said, “SVEEP Portal is a web based application meant to connect all stakeholders of the Election Commission including CEO, District Electoral Officers (DEOs), Nodal Officers for fair conduction of elections in the state. Each stakeholder is assigned one login to access the portal. The aim of the launch is also to inform and educate people about the importance of voting and to promote youth participation.” The Web portal is developed by LPU students and faculty members, who kept in mind young people who will more often access this portal on mobile phones.

Former Premier of British Columbia (Canada) Hon’ble Ujjwal Dosanjh was the Chief Guest of the ‘SVEEP Program on Youth Participation in Elections’ organized at LPU.  To commemorate the occasion, a postal stamp of SVEEP (Punjab) was also released.  The historic launches were shared by Consul General of Canada Mr. Christopher Gibbins, Additional CEO (Pb) Sh. Sibbin C, Deputy Commissioners (Jalandhar and Kapurthala) Sh. Kamal Kishor Yadav IAS, dan Gurlovleen Singh Sidhu IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Jalandhar) Sh. Girish Dayalan and Lovely Group Chairman Mr. Ramesh Mittal.  More than 3000 SVEEP Nodal Officers, Campus Ambassadors of Districts of Jalandhar and Kapurthala, Principals, teachers, Spinal Cord injury affected persons, students from LPU and other educational institutions participated in the event. The massive programme conveyed its message effectively to young minds through both educative and entertaining means.

Addressing everyone in attendance, Hon’ble Ujjwal Dosanjh spoke about the real role of politics, politicians, voters, and appreciated India for its freedom of thoughts and expressions. He said, “Politics is a noble calling through which, by making the right decisions, we can make our areas great with good projects and better society. So, it is very important for voters to participate in large number to see a government of their choice and dreams. Voting with integrity and sincerity is as sacred as one’s religion. A voter should always feel that if he/she does not vote then a crime is committed. For this I encourage you all to register yourself as voters, cast your vote responsibly and ethically, and make your country greater than ever.”
