* MP Dr. Mittal awards volunteers for their brave acts during flooding in Shahkot

Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, visited the flood-hit Shahkot area in Jalandhar District, Punjab. The purpose of his visit was to assess the current situation and provide necessary assistance to the affected people. He was accompanied by SDM Nakodar Kanwaljit Singh and the Tehsildar & Naib Tehsildar of Shahkot.

During his visit, Dr. Mittal met with the people affected by the floods and learned about their brave and helpful endeavors in dealing with the situation. He appreciated the efforts of those who brought thousands of sandbags to repair the breaches and awarded INR 2 lakhs to the volunteers who provided care and assistance to the affected people during these difficult times. He also observed the process of silt removal from the area.

Dr. Mittal raised concerns about the restoration of electricity supply in the affected area and urged the SDM Nakodar to take immediate action. He assured the affected people that he would ensure the necessary amenities reach them on time. Additionally, he visited the villages in the Lohia Khas area and observed the satisfactory progress of repair work on a nearby “Bandh” (embankment).

As the Chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab, Dr. Mittal has also instructed the NSS (National Service Scheme) volunteers at the university to be ready to help and support the affected people in their immediate needs. He encouraged the volunteers to provide personal care and generous assistance to bring relief to those suffering from the flood.

It is mentioned that heavy rains had caused flooding in thousands of houses and agricultural land in over three dozen villages in the area, leading to a disaster not only for Shahkot but also for the entire state of Punjab. However, resourceful individuals and volunteers have been actively involved in assessing and managing the situation.
