24th September 2016, Lovely Professional University: LPU NSS gathered about 350 strong at the Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium, to celebrate the NSS Day and launch NSS’s first video. The chief invitees of the event were Senior Dean Mr. Modi and Dr. Sourabh Lakhanpal, Head DSA. The theme of the evening was education for all, and the principal addresses talked of the launch of a child adoption programme, and a computer literacy programme. The cultural performances of the evening like the folk dance, group folk dance, fusion dance, theatre, western dance and a mime on AIDS were all issue centric.
The event also celebrated the NSS’s video launch introducing the organisation, leaders, and it’s contribution to society. NSS has actively worked towards relief and rehabilitation in the face of natural disasters. It raises funds, provides health care and organises blood donation camps to help the needy. But that is not all, NSS is a service scheme that believes in consistently working towards a better future for all. With that aim in mind, LPU NSS runs literacy programs, sanitation awareness drives, and health care camps in nearby villages. In addition to the current activities, the NSS has launched VANA, a volunteer association of LPU NSS alumni. The audience were informed of the ‘Joy of Giving’ project on October 8,2016 in Chandigarh where 160 alumni would be participating.
The event also paid homage to the martyrs of URI attack with a 2 minute silence. It came to an end with the blessings of Mrs. Rashmi Mittal, Pro Chancellor, followed by a vote of thanks by Prof. Sourabh Lakhanpal.
