* Five LPU boxers won 2 gold, 2 silver & 1 bronze medals in their respective weight categories

* The occasion was the Association of Indian Universities’ biggest boxing competition conducted at LPU’s Boxing Rings with 391+ boxers from 67 Indian Universities

The Women-boxers’ team of Lovely Professional University (LPU) is declared ‘Champion’ at the Association of Indian Universities (AIU’s) All India Inter University Women Boxing Championship-2023/24. This occasion was one of the biggest female boxing events in the country conducted at the Boxing Rings of LPU. Here, 391 women boxers from India’s 67 Universities competed in 12 weight categories to claim their wins through 361 bouts.

Winning five medals, including 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal, in their respective weight categories; LPU women boxers gathered maximum points to be on the top of the championship. The team of Punjab University is declared first runner-up; and, CU Mohali stands second runner-up.

In addition, LPU’s Fly-weight (48-50 kgs) Gold winner woman boxer Tamanna is also declared as the ‘Best Boxer’. Exhibiting the furious power of their hooks and punches, another boxer also named Tamana won a Gold medal in the light middleweight category (66-70 Kgs).  Silver medal winners are Deepika Sharma (60-63Kgs) and Yashi Sharma (63-66 Kgs). The single Bronze Medal Winner from LPU is Sakina Saleem (75-81Kgs). All of them displayed wonderful skills against their opponents. They also attracted the attention of all boxing lovers through their technically sound and hard-hitting bouts.

LPU’s Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal invoked all winners and participants to keep up their passion for the sports and glory of their respective institutions and the country.

In fact, after the success of many of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU’s) sports events hosted at LPU Campus, it is always trusted to conduct such big events at its campus. This time again many hundreds of the participants- including pugilists, managers, mentors, referees, and officials were seen amid all on-goings for the Championship.
