My journey from my mother’s princess to a wife and then to a mother of two kids, and the journey of my career from an office executive to an officer, all seems very short. I feel like life’s just beginning for me, and I’m looking forward to the next milestone.
Everyone has a defining influence in life. For me it was my mother, who raised me and my four siblings on her own, without any support whatsoever. She was great dress designer and seamstress, and I remember her stitching all the time, to ensure that we kids never lacked anything.
We grew up with the ‘tak tak’ of her sewing machine as our constant companion. Whether we were sleeping or studying, or watching TV, that ‘tak tak’ sound was always with us.
Today, whenever I feel tired or weak, I imagine my mother’s smiling face and the ‘tak tak’ of her sewing machine. It never fails to infuse new strength in me, to face every challenge that comes my way.
I believe we all have this ‘tak tak’ sound in our lives, in the form of relatives, our society, or even our colleagues sometimes. We shouldn’t treat this sound as an annoyance or an obstacle in our path, but rather make it the reason for our success. Take it in our stride, make it our challenge, overcome it.
Just believe in yourself. Keep growing.
Happy Women’s Day!
