Short Term Course on Biological Risk Management was organized by School of Bioengineering and Biosciences in collaboration with Human Resource Development Center w.e.f. 18-Oct-21 to 25-Oct-21. The course introduced the essential elements of biosafety and the participants had the opportunity to advance their knowledge of biosafety in areas such as risk identification, risk assessment, mitigation of risks, facility requirement, facility development and governmental regulations.
The Program Convener Dr. Sunaina Ahuja, Professor & Dean and Head-HRDC, LPU in her inaugural address emphasized the Need for Biosafety. The Short Term Course on Biological Risk Management received the active participation of faculty members and research scholars from PAN India.
The subject matter expert, Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Bioengineering and Biosciences, Lovely Professional University focussed on the practical aspects including examples that are relevant to the current industry requirements.
The Program was spread over 06 days in which participants were individually coached with respect to:
- Need for Biosafety: Case Studies
- Principles of Biosafety
- Select Agents, Biosecurity, and Bioterrorism
- Transportation of Hazardous Materials
- Disposal of Wastes from Biological Laboratories
- Emergency Response Provisions
- Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC)
- Institutional Biosafety Committee
- Infrastructure of Biosafety Laboratory
There was a rich mix of individual and team activities making the program interesting and interactive. The deliberations stimulated self-learning amongst the participants who actively participated in the program. The participants were appreciative of the gesture shown by the University in terms of choice of Subject Matter Expert, appropriate learning environment, study material and content delivery. They were also impressed by the subject expertise of the resource person.
