As students in a professional university, we are often subjected to certain questions thrown at us by our parents, families, and near and dear ones regarding our future plans/further studies/jobs/anything and everything that has to do with ‘the next step’ in our life. Especially if you are in the final year of your course. Although we might often consider this as nagging, if we think about and introspect on it, we’ll realize that the trend of going with the flow won’t really get us far into the future, and it is better to be future oriented than be a person without any sort of plan.
We are living in a generation where change is a constant phenomenon. Everything is progressing rapidly, and we are required to follow attentively just to keep up with things happening around us. This is an era where hard-work has become rather unreliable unless clubbed together with smart-work. To be future oriented and to possess the skills to constructively visualize our own future has become a necessity. Every day is a constant race against time. And we need to sharpen our intellectual tools to understand the ongoing pace.
The future is unpredictable, and that stands as a fact. But with smart work and smart planning we can minimise the risks and control a few variables. Living in the moment is great and should be practiced, but we should not be carried away by those words and throw away our future. There comes a time in our life when the next big step, to take a decision for a new phase in our life, becomes inevitable.
Continuous introspection, consultation with seniors and lecturers, and advice from our parents is be a good start. Having said that, at the end of the day, it all comes to ‘what do you want to be’ or ‘where do you want to be’ in the future. The next step in our life will be a leap into the future, and depending on our decision, it might either lead to greatness or to our downfall.
It’s never too late until it’s too late.
