The Human Resource Development Center (HRDC), Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized a Staff Development Program (SDP) on Disaster Management on May 09, 2026 for staff members of the Division of Residential Services. The program aimed to strengthen emergency preparedness, enhance response capabilities, and equip participants with practical skills required to effectively manage emergencies within residential facilities. The program commenced with welcome note by Dr. Harish Mittu, Professor, Department of Faculty Development, HRDC, LPU, who highlighted the objectives, structure, and expected outcomes of the training initiative.
The session was conducted by Mr. Shubham, Research Associate, Environment and Climate Change Centre (ECCC), Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Chandigarh, who delivered an engaging and application-oriented training focused on disaster readiness and institutional safety. The training provided participants with an understanding of disaster management concepts, including hazards, vulnerabilities, risks, and the Disaster Management Cycle comprising mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Through interactive discussions, role-based simulations, and scenario-based activities, participants explored emergency response strategies related to hostel emergencies such as fire outbreaks, earthquakes, and medical crises. During the fire safety management session, participants gained a practical understanding of the types of fire breakouts, stages, emergency evacuation procedures, and the appropriate use of different types of fire extinguishers. The training also provided hands-on exposure to rescue and evacuation techniques, including victim handling methods and the safe transportation of injured individuals during emergency situations.
The session further emphasized first aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) procedures, including CPR fundamentals, airway management, recovery positioning, and emergency response protocols for burn injuries, snake bites, and other medical emergencies.
The SDP was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sunaina Ahuja, Professor and Dean, Head, HRDC, LPU and was effectively coordinated by Dr. Harish Mittu along with Mr. Rahul Kanojia, ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the SDP. The SDP concluded with a post-training evaluation, enabling participants to assess their understanding of disaster preparedness and emergency response practices. The SDP was highly appreciated for its practical relevance and significant contribution toward building a safer and more resilient campus environment.
