They’re comfortable. They keep going for years. They don’t require dry-cleaning or whatever other sort of exceptional treatment. They’re ideal for various events, from an excursion to the supermarket, to a stroll in the recreation center, to a night out, to even semi-formal social events. They’re staggeringly adaptable, which means they look great with practically everything, from shirts to shrewd jackets. Indeed, you can’t envision existence without them.
What are we discussing? Pants, obviously! This famous article of clothing is more than this day, as is Mr. Levi Strauss, a man without whom pants as we know them would not exist.
Levi Strauss was a German-American, born in Bavaria on February 26th, 1829, who went to the United States with his family in the mid-1800s when he was 18 years of age. Strauss started as a dry products distributor in San Francisco, California, where he sold garments, bedding, sacks and cloths to pilgrims, a large number of whom had touched base in California to partake in the gold rush. One day in 1870, one of Strauss’ customers, a tailor named Jacob W. Davis was requested by a lady for some solid working jeans for her significant other, a woodcutter. Her request inspired Davis to make some jeans from the denim he’d purchased at Strauss’ shop. These pants became popular and son were a sought after trend, but Davis didn’t have any investment for a larger tailor shop. He requested Strauss’ money in the documenting of a patent application. Strauss concurred, the patent was issued, the two men got to be business partners, and Levi Strauss and Co. happened. Isn’t this cool?
Well I for one am totally glad that Davis met Strauss and my second skin was created. Love my Levis.
