Lovely Professional University’s (LPU) School of Fashion Design & Technology has been granted Rs 6.20 Crore for cutting-edge research projects in technical textiles. The funding comes from the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) of the Ministry of Textiles, India. The grant aims to advance indigenous development in the field of technical textiles in India. LPU’s School of Fashion is among the top fashion design institutes in the country and has received recognition from prestigious ranking agencies.

The approved funding will be utilized for acquiring laboratory equipment related to various aspects of technical textiles, including digital design, garment construction, knitting, weaving, and textile testing. The grant also includes provisions for training specialized trainers.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Founder Chancellor and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), expressed his joy and congratulated the faculty for their commitment to innovation and providing an exceptional learning experience to students. In addition, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal highlighted that the School of Fashion is committed to being the topmost institute in the country. He emphasized that the grant received further solidifies LPU’s reputation as a respected institution and demonstrates the presence of the right talent within the school to secure such prestigious grants. Dr Mittal also expressed his confidence that with this grant, the pace of growth and development at the School of Fashion will be significantly enhanced, further propelling its position as a leader in the field.

LPU is one of the 18 institutions in the country that have received approval for research & development (R&D) projects valued at nearly 50 Crores in the field of technical textiles. The coordination of the granted projects at LPU will be overseen by Dr. Neha Sah, Jaswant Singh, and Meghna Gupta.

The Ministry of Textiles emphasizes the importance of industry and institute collaboration for the indigenous development of technical textiles in India. The Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce, and Industry shared this sentiment during the 7th meeting of the Mission Steering Group (MSG) of the National Technical Textiles Mission.

Technical textiles find applications in various industries such as construction, transport, agriculture, medicine, hygiene, and sports. They are valued for their functional properties and are used in products like filters, machine clothing, and conveyor belts in industrial manufacturing operations.
