“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up”. The above saying by famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso highlights a quite common phenomenon of human life according to which we often have a big dream when we are children, but as we grow up, we compromise on those dreams and they are moulded into something completely different.
With the advent of such a scenario, Kamaldeep Singh, a Bachelor of Fine Arts sophomore at Lovely Professional University is setting an example for all. Being from a humble middle-class family in Ambala Cantonment, Kamal had a dream of being a notable “painter” of his generation since childhood. In a country where a boy is destined to be an engineer and a girl to be a doctor, Kamaldeep tends to broke through the shackles of the society, when he joined the undergraduate course in Fine Arts.
“When I came to Lovely Professional University, I was welcomed with an aura of creativity and artistic freedom which intrigued me the most. The cultural fests like One India, Spectra, One World, etc. gave me an opportunity to hone my skills as well as make new friends. These friends have now become inseparable parts of my life”.
Kamaldeep is a member of the Alumni Relations club of LPU. He has been a part of various social campaigns like Blood Donation camps, Old Clothes donation for the underprivileged and many more. He has numerous awards under his belt in competitions like Falgun Art Exhibition, Creative Contour etc.
Kamaldeep Singh was also a member of the group selected for Kala Sangam Art Competition organized by Karnal Municipal Corporation, Haryana on 1st October 2017. The competition aimed to create ‘an art to ignite the power of imagination’.
With success at such an early age, one often tends to develop a sense of false ego inside them. But this is not the case with Kamaldeep Singh. He can be seen getting out of his room at 5:30 in the morning for his sketching practice. Moreover, his juniors have found an ideal mentor in him as he is like a big brother to them, helping them in their endeavour.
“Coming to LPU was one of the best decisions I met in my life. I have often been rebuked by my parents for making my decisions in haste. But in regards to LPU, they are happy to see me working. Moreover, I have formed a new family here with people from different states like Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh as well as various countries. One of my hostel roommates is from Nepal, which not only gave me the opportunity to know about their culture but also gave me a brother from across the border. If today I am happy and successful, LPU is one of the major factors behind it.
Kamaldeep can be seen in his various places across the university with his stack of papers and bag full of accessories. Today, he is also taking professional portrait assignments from people in and around the university. Lovely Professional University is proud to have Kamaldeep as its student as the progress made by him is ensured to bring laurels and pride to the university as well as our country.
