The efforts made by LPU to spread awareness about Spinal Cord Injury(SCI) on this SCI Day were a success. Many youngsters joined in to contribute their part. The Rally flagged off from LPU Campus, Jalandhar and reached Wagah Border, Amritsar, where participants watched the Retreat Ceremony.
Many who were had suffered from SCI were a part of The Wheelchair Rally. Each one had a different and a moving story. But, there was one thing that was common in all of them, the willpower to enjoy life despite the challenges and difficulties they faced, they had come all the way to make people aware about the consequences of a spinal cord injury.
One of them was Harpinder Sanghera’s wife, who lost her husband to SCI. She was left alone with a daughter, barely old enough to understand the meaning of death. To acknowledge Mrs. Sanghera’s fight and struggle with the hardships of life, LPU offered her a job proposal on this Spinal Cord Injury Day.
The Rally was also convened by Member of Parliament(MP) Gurjit SIngh Aujla. He shared his views on Spinal Cord Injury saying that road accidents were the leading cause of spinal injuries. He also urged the people to drive responsibly to prevent any such accidents, because, prevention is the only way to avoid SCI, and once injured, it can not be cured.
LPU strives to help and empower people who have the zest for life and refuse to be brought down by difficulties. We appreciate the courage of these people and wish for success and happiness in their life.
