With a view to provide confirmed accommodation to waitlisted passengers and also to ensure optimal utilisation of available accommodation, a scheme called Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme – VIKALP has been conceptualised and is being introduced w.e.f. 01.04.2017. Under this scheme, waitlisted passengers of a train can opt for confirmed accommodation in alternative trains.

Here are 10 things you should know about VIkalp:

  1. The scheme is started for time being on e-tickets only.

  2. No extra cost will be charged and if the cost is less than the refund will be given for the difference in fare.

  3. All the wait listed passengers will be provided with the option to opt for VIKALP.

  4. Vikalp opting passengers who remain fully waitlisted will be provided with alternate train reservations only after charting.

  5. PNR Status should be checked after charting.

  6. After the allotment of alternate train reservation, Vikalp Passengers will be eligible for any upgrades needed.

  7. If seats are allotted once to Vikalp Passengers then they will be treated as general passengers. Thus if they file for cancellation then the regular terms and regulations will apply.

  8. After the allotment of alternate train passengers will not be allowed to board the original train.

  9. If you are allotted a seat in an alternate train then you will not be listed in the waiting list charts of your original train.

  10. Vikalp scheme will utilise the un-allotted berths across all the trains to make the journey of every passenger possible.

So, if you are planning your travel for the session break, opt VIKALP for you waitlisted tickets. Smooth travels my friends!
