Do you ever wonder what such extraordinary people would have said while taking their last breath?

In this article, I would like to share with you ‘The famous last words’ of some great personalities who made admirable and priceless contributions to the history of mankind and its development.

  • When Sir Isaac Newton died, he was humble. He said, “I don’t know what I may seem to the world. But as to myself, I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore and diverting myself now and then in finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than the ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”

  • Leonardo Da Vinci was overly modest, saying, “I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach the quality it should have.”

  • As Benjamin Franklin lay dying at the age of 84, his daughter told him to change position in bed so he could breathe more easily. Franklin’s last words were, “A dying man can do nothing easy.”

  • Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who wrote the Sherlock Holmes stories, died at age 71 in his garden. He turned to his wife and said, “You are wonderful,” then clutched his chest and passed away.

  • Before Ernest Hemingway committed suicide, he told his wife Mary, “Goodnight, my kitten.”

  • Steve Jobs famously said, “Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.” before he died from pancreatic cancer in 2011.

  • At the hospital, after being shot by assassin Mark David Chapman, John Lennon was asked if he was John Lennon; he responded with his last words ever, “Yes, I am.”

  • Elvis Presley, the superstar who was known as the king, died on the toilet at his Graceland mansion. His last words were, “I’m going to the bathroom to read.”

  • Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister said, “Oh, I am so bored with it all”, perhaps referring to his illness. He then slipped into a coma and died nine days later.

  • Italian artist Raphael’s last word was simply, “Happy.” He was only 37 years old when he died.

  • The legendary German composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven addressed his gathered loved ones and said, “Friends applaud, the comedy is over”, just before he breathed his last.

The words spoken by these people, just seconds away from their death are really something else. Maybe we get to know them better by analyzing their final words, or maybe we don’t. But either way, we now know the final words of some pretty famous people, that’s quite the up side to this article :D.
