A shooter’s accuracy, control, and speed are all put to the test in the sport of shooting, which involves pointing firearms like pistols and rifles at predetermined targets. More than 500 years have passed since the beginning of shooting sports, which didn’t catch on until the 1950s. But as time went on, this sport became well-known and is now played all around the world. Our student Raj Kanwar Singh Sandhu, who is currently enrolled in the BA LLB (Hons) program here at LPU, recently competed in the ISSF Junior World Cup competition in Germany, where he won a Silver medal in the 25-meter pistol event.
2017 marked the inaugural year of the ISSF Junior World Championship, which was organised by the International Shooting Sport Federation. It includes both Olympic and non-Olympic competitions in rifle, pistol, and shotgun, as well as individual and team competitions in those three disciplines. At the conclusion of the tournament for the ISSF Junior World Cup 2022, the junior shooting team representing India finished in first place overall. The Indian team finished the competition with a total of 33 medals: 13 gold, 15 silver, and five bronze. This put them in first place on the medals table. There was no other nation that even came close to competing for second place. Italy came in second place overall with a total of eleven medals, including four gold, one silver, and five bronze. Former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh also congratulated LPU student Raj Kanwar Singh Sandhu for bringing glory to the nation.
On behalf of all the other students at the Shooting Academy of Patiala, Raj Kanwar Singh Sandhu was given a warm welcome, and the people’s joy was demonstrated by the act of cutting the cake. He began practicing in 2017 from their base in Chandigarh. After earning the bronze medal at the World Cup competition that was held in Sydney in 2018, Raj Kanwar Singh Sandhu went on to win about 17 medals overall. In an interview, Raj Kanwar Singh Sandhu said that life has many challenges, but that he has been able to overcome these challenges and is here today.
