LPU students have competed successfully at international levels, including the Olympics, the World Championships, and a variety of other sports championships. Students at LPU have consistently been an inspiration to their country. Tamanna, a student at LPU and a professional boxer, recently won Bronze medal in the 50-kilogram division at the IBA Youth Women’s World Boxing Championships, which were held in Spain. “I have practiced a lot for the last few months and this is getting me results. I would like to thank my coach, my family and support staff for always standing by my side,” says Tamanna.
Tamanna was only in the sixth grade when she decided she wanted to box. At that time, there was nothing but support from her family. “Initially I thought it would be easy because so many people in our family were such good boxers. But I found out how difficult it was. I had to work really hard. But I have always enjoyed boxing,” Tamanna was quoted as saying by ESPN.
Tamanna has made the most of the opportunities she’s got. She has won Gold at the sub junior and youth national championships. Prior to the 2022 edition in Jordan, she had competed in two Asian Championships winning Silver on both occasions.
The 22nd IBA Youth World Boxing Championships were held in La Nucia, Spain, from November 14 to November 26, 2022. These championships were organised by the International Boxing Association (IBA), the regulatory organisation for amateur boxing around the world. It was the fourth time in the history of the competition that both men and women competed for the championship at the same time. The 25-person Indian team brought home 11 medals overall, including four gold, three silver, and four bronze. This year’s championships saw participation of close to 600 boxers from 73 countries.
