* LPU Offers Free Education to Individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries
Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Bhagwant Mann, interacted with people with spinal cord injuries at the LPU campus. The event was the Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Conference, named ‘Vistaar-2023’ organised at the Lovely Professional University (LPU) campus. The conference was jointly organized by the Spinal Cord Injury Association of India and LPU at the Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium. The conference aimed to sensitize society and various agencies to adopt stringent measures for the prevention of such injuries. Nearly 100 persons with spine injuries, even from far-off cities participated in the conference. To provide support to the conference leading personalities from civil administration, police, health, industry and NGOs participated in the conference.
Chief Minister of Punjab, Sh Bhagwant Mann, while addressing the gathering mentioned “I am delighted to see that the Spinal Cord Injury Association of India and Lovely Professional University have come together to organize the Conference, Vistaar-2023. The conference is a great platform to sensitize society and agencies towards adopting stringent measures for the prevention and rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries.
LPU Chancellor and Member of Parliament, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, while addressing the affected and the accompanying relatives, commended the Spinal Cord Injury Association Foundation for their commendable work. He also shared that LPU has also framed a scholarship policy to ease the financial burden of individuals with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). LPU provides 100% scholarships to such students.
SCIA President Parvinder Singh Sonu informed that the main motive of SCIA is to serve as a comprehensive resource centre for individuals affected by spinal cord injury and those working in related fields and other concerned persons. SCIA Vice President Davinder Singh shared that their association aims to trace people suffering from such injuries, donate them wheelchairs to make them mobile and live life independently, provide vocational training to make them financially independent, and sensitize society and concerned agencies to adopt stringent measures for preventing such injuries in the future.
The conference provided a platform for one-to-one interaction between persons affected by spinal cord injury and experts from related fields. During the session, leading specialists counselled the affected persons for rehabilitation and inspired them for independent and respect-worthy social life.
The conference was a great success and provided valuable insights into spinal cord injury rehabilitation. The organizers hope that the information and discussions shared during the conference will help in promoting awareness and prevention of spinal cord injuries.
