Lohri is a popular Punjabi festival. People in and of Punjab celebrate it with great enthusiasm, lighting up a bonfire and feasting on traditional sweets like gajak and rewari, along with peanuts and popcorn. Many people believe the day commemorates the passing of the winter solstice, while many others believe that it is a harvest festival.
LPU, being located in the city of Jalandhar, offers students who are unfamiliar with the festival, a chance to experience the fun of its vibrant celebration by organising lohri on the campus. This year, the Lohri event gave the international students of LPU a chance to enjoy Punjabi culture, up close. They dressed themselves up in Bhangra and Giddha costumes and danced to ethnic music, as the traditional Lohri bonfire was lit, and peanuts and rewaris shared among the celebrating students.
