There are revolutionary developments that are happening in the communication and related areas of satellite designs. Satellites are going to work in constellations in the nearest orbits providing higher capabilities of signal reception with enhanced quality in the remote areas across the globe. In this progress of communication satellites, the innovations and advancements in antenna technologies are of significant importance that need to be discussed. In this context Short Term Course on Antenna Design Approach for Satellite Applications was organized by the Human Resource Development Center (HRDC) and Division of Research and Development- Centre for Space Research, Lovely Professional University w.e.f. Nov 08 to Nov 12, 2021. The program got an overwhelming response. Maestros of Academia from premier institutes such as National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, Hyderabad, IIT Dhanbad, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), and from host institute deliberated on Antenna Design Approach for Satellite Applications.

Program convener Dr. Sunaina Ahuja, Professor & Associate Dean and Head, Human Resource Development Center, after setting context of the course assured the participants that they would be enriched with knowledge on Antenna design for Satellite applications. “The Short Term Course is unique in terms of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment methods which are gamified in approach” she expressed.

The panel consisted of eminent subject matter experts namely Prof. D V A Raghava Murthy, Advisor, Centre for Space Research, LPU, Dr. Chinmoy Saha, Associate Professor, Department of Avionics, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Department of Space, Kerala,  Prof. Sandeep Sankar Roy, Scientist, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, Hyderabad, Dr. Raghavendra Chaudhary, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics Engineering, IIT Dhanbad, Dr. Daljeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Centre for Space Research, Lovely Professional University.

Each Subject Matter expert expressed views on different segments of Antenna Design. Prof. D V A Raghava Murthy deliberated on systems Engineering of Satellites. Dr. Chinmoy Saha and Prof. Sandeep Sankar Roy focused on Satellites to Ground Applications followed by hands on training; Dr. Raghavendra Chaudhary gave live demonstration on Structures, Materials, and their Analysis. Dr. Daljeet Singh reflected on Practical Approaches for Antenna design through hands on training session.

Prof. D V A Raghava Murthy, Advisor, Centre for Space Research, LPU appreciated the contribution of Resource Team. He applauded coordinating team members Dr. Savita Gupta Professor, HRDC, Mr.Ajay sharma, Assistant Professor, HRDC and Ms. Sushma, HRDC, for organizing a meaningful short-term course, successful in meeting participants’ expectations.
