* Flagged off 16th Cross Country (M/W), and held interactions at ‘Youth Talk show’ with new students

 * “Pave your own way to reach winning podiums”: World Medal Winner LPU Students, Jasmine & Parveen

Two of the world medals winning Lovely Professional University (LPU) students, Jaismine at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 and Parveen Hooda at Turkey World Boxing Championship 2022, reached campus to celebrate ‘National Sports Day’.  Both of the pride of the nation, flagged off 16th Cross Country (M/W) where hundreds of sports students and faculty members participated with fervour.  Both of them were back to the campus after their glorious global wins for the first time.

On this occasion, an interactive ‘Youth Talk show’ with LPU students was also organized at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the university, where students and staff members welcomed them as celebrities. While interacting, both of them suggested students to pave their own way to reach winning podiums in the fields of their temperament and choice.

Women boxers, Jasmine Lamboria and Parveen Hooda are BPEd students at LPU. Both of them always exhibit the furious power of their hooks and punches at the competitions. They also shared that LPU management accords much care to the sports persons. LPU keeps supporting and inspiring them in various forms to keep on adding to the glory of the nation.

Worth mentioning, since 2012, the National Sports Day in India is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary (August 29) of country’s hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. On this day, the President of India also gives away sport-related awards including Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award and Dronacharya Award to prominent sportsmen-women and mentors.

Sr Dean Student Welfare Wing Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal and Director Sports Dr V Kaul at LPU informed that the cross-country race of about 10 kilometres was also participated by para students enrolled at the campus. For this, 20 participating students of the university including 9 women, 9 men and 2 para students were declared special winners by claiming cross country titles, individually.

Results: Some of the top winners for 5Kms race for girls are: Nita Devi time 24:17.36sec; Simran 25:19.86sec; Khushboo 26:02.91sec; and, Para athlete, Garima Joshi 30:27.17sec.

From boys for 10 kms race are: Saurabh Bhardwaj 40:02.03sec; Sarvesh:41:31.93sec; Avnish:43:43.61 sec; and, Para Athlete Sunil 51:31.30sec.
