Our planet earth is one of a kind. It is the only known place in the entire universe that is suitable for the survival of human species and all the living beings. But this beautiful homeland of ours is on the verge of serious natural degradations of all kind. From the past decade, the growing industrialization and artificiality have been consuming the essence of nature and things without which no living being can exist.
Recently, the north Indian states including New Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab were hit by severe smog. It was the most polluted air recorded of all time. A report spread out by the World Health Organization states that all around the world there are 36% deaths from lung cancer, 34% from stroke and 27% from heart diseases and the major reason behind all these serious health damages is air pollution. The air quality is degrading every minute.
The global icon and Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has been known to put his maximum efforts to put a word against environmental degradation. He has been a part of a documentary named “Before the Flood” which carries nerve-wrecking information about how our planet is degrading every day.
One of the biggest achievements has been the support of nations worldwide to stand against climate change and be a part of the Paris Climate Accord which would deal with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation and would start functioning in the year 2020.
On the other hand, people on their level can initiate activities that would help a safer and cleaner environment. Activities like:
- Recycling
- Reduced electricity usage
- Planting more trees
- Saving water
and so many others could lessen the effects of harmful elements and could help maintain a balance in nature. A non-profit organization named ‘Healing Himalayas’ is working in the Himalayan regions of India cleaning litter and artificial waste from the mountains. People can volunteer for organizations like this and start giving their share in saving the nature.
All we have to do is take this matter seriously and think about what are we going to leave for our coming generations.
So start today. Make the world better again.
