United Nations Model Conference (IGNMUN) Inaugurated at LPU

The conference is to offer opportunity to delegates to engage in special interactive sessions with eminent guest speakers, to discuss key issues and formulate creative and practical solutions for the problems being faced presently.

Since the United Nations (UN) was founded, it has achieved significant milestones and allowed nations across the globe to increase international co-operation and resolve many potential conflicts. To involve youth in this important body of the world and to let it know the significance of United Nations a model United Nations a conference was planned. The aim was to encourage individuals who are interested in ideating and debating on key national and global issues. To promote the same, the three-day Indira Gandhi National Model United Nations Conference (IGNMUN)-Jalandhar Chapter was inaugurated today at Lovely Professional University. Patron of IGNMUN and former Chief Minister of New Delhi, Smt Shiela Dikshit commenced the inaugural session of the conference.

At this inaugural ceremony, former Union Home Minister & former Governor of Punjab Shri Shivraj Patil was the Chief Guest and former Chief Minister Punjab Smt Rajinder Kaur Bhattal was the Guest of Honour. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal also graced the dais. Founder Chairman of IGNMUN Jalandhar Chapter Mr Gautam Seth, President Abhimanyu, and Secretary General Shauryaa Shoor convened the conference. During IGNMUN, each delegate is to take part in a simulation of the United Nations or another body and gain better insight into the subtleties of international affairs. A 1000 participants are attending the conference that will end on 28th December 2015.  

Addressing the delegates from all across the country, Shri Shiv Raj Patil and Smt Sheila Dikshit were vocal in sharing that the aim of the conference was to make our world a better home for all of us. Shri Patil said, “We should widen our vision and join hands with the world to fight the evil that plagues our global society. We should do our duties well for the badvancement of not only our country but the entire world.” Speaking about equal rights of women, Smt Sheila Dikshit said, “Women have great power, tolerance, courage, and have a heart full of compassion. With full equality they can do wonders to make this a better world.” 

During the conference, participating student-delegates, impersonating the top leaders of different countries, will discuss various issues for possible solutions. As such the conference is to offer opportunity to delegates to engage in special interactive sessions with eminent guest speakers to discuss key issues and formulate creative and practical solutions for the problems being faced presently.
