“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.”
-Frank Smith
The English language enjoys unparalleled power and scope. Today, the knowledge of English is a must to crack an interview or land a good job. However, without self confidence and good public speaking skills, knowledge of the language won’t take one very far. The School of Professional Enhancement in LPU has formed “The Open Audi Club”, an initiative taken up to give students customized training in spoken English and other soft skills .
‘The Open Audi Club’ started on 19th February, 2016. It held its first meeting at the amphitheatre above the Shanti Devi Mittal auditorium with nearly 100 students in attendance. Headed by the faculty of Soft Skills, this club has already earned the interest of many students and they all meet at the open auditorium for various literary activities to help them enhance their public speaking skills and improve their English. There is even a Facebook group available and the members who are unable to attend the meetings share their views and are a part of these activities online. The Facebook group itself has become a platform for learning as many interesting tasks are given to students which are performed online. In addition to this, discussion on current topics and important issues is also done online. There are activities like relay story writing, quizzes on words and phrases, and even anchoring and debate competitions. A book reading club is in the pipeline. The link for the Facebook group is “tinyurl.com/openclub”.
Many a times it happens that we miss many chances in life or we fail to express our ideas just because we lack fluency in English or feel under-confident. This club is dedicated to grooming out such gaps in personality development and training them to be confident speakers, good listeners, creative thinkers, and better writers.
LPU has a history of great initiatives .‘The Open Audi’ club is another step in this direction.
