School of Architecture and Design, Lovely Professional University invited renowned architect of international repute Raj Rewal to interact with its students. The topic of discussion was “A Dialogue on Architecture and Urban Habitat”.
Ar.Rewal has a productive career spanning over five decades in architectural practice, research and thought-process. He has been honorary awarded with ‘Chevalier des Art des Lettres’ by French Government. As an experienced and a celebrated architecture, Ar Rewal has received many awards and honours, including the Robert Mathew Award from the Commonwealth Associations of Architects. His interest peculiarly lies in historic models.
While interacting with the LPU students and faculty member, Ar Rewal emphasised on the representation of culture through contemporary architecture. He talked about the importance of built environment that are climate responsive and culturally active. He deliberated on design ideation of his famous architectural projects including Hall of Nation (New Delhi) and Jung-e-Azadi Museum (Kartarpur, Punjab).
His design portfolio consists of some of the most prestigious projects including Pragati Maidan Exhibition Complex, the French Embassy Staff Quarters, Asian Games Village, the British High Commission Housing. He gave insights into the minuscule details that an architect should observe in order to give finishing touches to his design.
Post his interaction, he encouraged the students to travel and explore the world for inspiration in their designs and observe new trends in Architecture, Design and Planning. In his reply to the selection process of products for large scale construction and city scale projects, he emphasised on multi-disciplinary collaborative approach for bringing out advanced architectural creations, thus improvising city spaces. He appreciated the work and creativity of LPU students.
It is worthwhile to mention here that LPU students of School of Architecture & Design are always setting the new benchmarks when it comes to creativity and contemporary designing.
