* LPU students will perform at Kartavya path in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Indian President, Prime Minister, and other national & international dignitaries
Seventeen of the NCC, NSS, Cultural and Merit domains’ students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) are to participate in the 74th National Republic Day celebrations, from 26th to 29th January in New Delhi, this year 2023. All of these students are selected after a rigorous selection process at zonal, state and national levels conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
After meritoriously clearing the stipulated ‘Republic Day (RD)’ parade camps; the selected students’ biggest ever contingent from LPU will perform at Kartavya path, New Delhi, in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other national & international dignitaries.
LPU students selected from NCC wing are Under Officer Sumit Jangra as Guard Commander for Guard of Honour; Under Officer Tushar for PM Rally; Sergeant Ishika Tripathi for Best Cadet Award and PM Rally; and, Lance Corporal (LCPL) Karamjit Singh for Kartavya Path. An NSS student, Alka is included in the national team of NSS volunteers. Two other students Shivam Aggarwal and Aakash Kumar are selected under the ‘meritorious students’ category. They are invited to witness the parade from the Prime Minister’s distinct ‘Box’.
In addition, a Bhangra team of ten persons from LPU is also selected to walk alongside the Punjab state tableau, and perform the ‘Bhangra dance’ on the Kartavya Path. Being adjudged among the best cadets, volunteers, performers of the country; all of these LPU students will salute the unfurled ‘Tricolour’ with dignity.
Congratulating the selected students, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal shared: “Our students have indeed got a golden opportunity to parade along with Indian Military, Navy, Air Force, other Para -Military forces and various other national and international troupes. We all at LPU are happy to see them become a part of the nation’s biggest cultural pageant, which is a symbol of a diverse but united India, as LPU campus is itself a united mini-India & Globe.”
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (Government of India) have selected LPU students in the toughest competition among lakhs of student-volunteers participating from across 5-zones of India. LPU students are selected keeping in view their overall performance for the parade, cultural activities, proficiency to participate in the debate on different social issues, and ability to depict the culture of their state. They will also be awarded prestigious testimonials by the President of India for their significant national role and participation.
