Distinguished Scientist & Director General (BrahMos), DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Dr. Sudhir Mishra visited LPU on 10th February to grace 3 significant events, which included the ‘Anusandhan Samaroh’ and ‘Interactive Session’ with engineering students of the university. He also inaugurated the all-new ‘Center for Space Research with Space Mission Control Facility’ at the campus.
Drawing inspiration from the fact that our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi added “Jai Anusandhan (Research)” to the legendary slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan” during the 106th Indian Science Congress held at LPU, the ‘Anusandhan Samaroh’ was held. During the event, Dr. Mishra honoured 354 faculty members and 200 students with merit-based awards worth Rs. 58,76,833 for their exemplary contributions to the field of Research and Development. In the Interactive Session, he enlightened LPU’s engineering students about research and the future of defence technologies like high-powered micro and laser powers. Dr. Mishra invoked the audience to work on their novel ideas that have the potential to generate new wealth and help society. The audience also had a chance to know about his academic and professional journey.
Following that, he grandly inaugurated the ‘Center for Space Research with Space Mission Control Facility’ along with LPU dignitaries by hammering the bell as a call for scientists and researchers from all over the country. The special facility will allow them to be engaged in activities like Satellite System Engineering and Design, Satellite Sub-System Design and Development, Satellite Integration, Satellite Launch and Operation, HAM Activities, Ground Station Networking, and much more.
LPU Chancellor, Mr. Ashok Mittal shared that this space control facility will aim to lower financial barriers hindering access to engineering data from space orbit. He also revealed that our faculty members and students will work on developing a satellite, ‘LPUSAT-1’, which has been one of the dream projects of LPU.
Head, Division of Research and Development at LPU, Prof. Dr. Geetha shared that students and researchers in LPU wish to establish communication with the International Space Station (ISS) and receive engineering data from satellites and other space crafts. This Ground Station at LPU will function on an internet-to-orbit gateway Mission Control Center that will also be available for public use.
It was thus an honour for LPU to have Dr. Sudhir Mishra, who inspired LPU students to imbibe energy, confidence, and positivity. The most inspiring fact about him is that Dr. Mishra prides in being home-grown as he has never been to any foreign institute for education and has a strong belief in our country’s excellent education system!
