I was walking past the Admission Block of my university the other day when I recognized an advertisement similar to one I had seen a year before. It was about the LPU NEST 2018, the entrance/qualification exam that serves a platform to students worldwide for a chance to get scholarship and avail admission to the University. I was thrown back to the time when I was completing my last year of high school and applying to colleges for my career as a Journalist. I was looking for universities offering similar courses and came across the university website of LPU. The same announcement saying ‘LPU NEST 2017’ was flashing big on my laptop screen and I was intrigued, to say the least. Among the various Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. level courses, I found my desired course of B.A in Journalism and Mass Communication.
I was amazed by the courses and subjects it offered as Journalism is not a popular stream in my country. But, LPU’s course curriculum had me overwhelmed with courses like Photojournalism, Documentary, Creative Writing and many more. When I talked about it around people, I came to know about the environment of the campus. A lush green campus equipped with modern tech facilities was just a beginning. At the point where I was finally about to choose between LPU and some of its peer universities, I personally found that I wanted to go somewhere I’d be comfortable and most importantly feel at home. Before coming to the campus, I was reading a lot about college life and moving into a different state for further education which made me think that isolation would be a common factor I’d have to face. This thought was turned out when I stepped into the campus and found how welcoming and friendly the people here are.
The best thing is that the university understands what you need. It supports your extravagant demand and pushes you through rigorous routines when needed. Your stay is made comfortable with amazing hospitality services, the food menu homely and diverse, there is a place for every passion and when it comes to academics and quality of education, it’s the right place to be.
It’s been over a year and my journey so far is more than memorable and amazing. I have found friends like family, people worth more than anything in my life and an education that brings out the best in me. Taking a leap of faith, I was more than lucky to have found this place as my ‘home away from home’!
