“LPU team was the only team which presented innovative solutions for water management and sanitation issues with a focus on water bodies in their immediate vicinity. ” – Mr. Mittal

Lovely Professional University agriculture & bio-sciences students, Kunal Adhikary (B.Sc. Agriculture Hons 4th Year) and Amandeep Singh (M.Sc Chemistry 1st Year) have brought laurels to the university by winning first prize at Association of Indian Universities’ (AIU’s) North Zone Research Convention- ‘ANVESHAN’. LPU students’ innovative project on sewage water treatment & agro water utility has been acclaimed for its being cost-effective, eco-friendly, sustainable, and user-friendly. Near 100 research scholars representing 20 universities of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh had attended the convention for competition, where students showcased their research works and findings. It is worth mentioning that except LPU students of graduation programs, all other students in competition were research students on the verge of completing their Ph.Ds even from top agriculture universities of India.

Aiming at identifying budding scientists and to inculcate research culture among students, a two-day research convention was organized by AIU at Indian Council for Agricultural Research-National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI), Karnal (Haryana). The competition was open to higher education students in the areas of basic sciences; agricultural; engineering & technology; health; and, social sciences. Jubilant Kunal, who hails from Darjeeling (West Bengal), explained: “Our project is going to help society in many ways. First of all, it is a very apt solution for sewage water treatment. The treated water thus got will be further used for agriculture, cleanliness, clothes washing and allied domestic purposes. Moreover, this treatment plant is to work on very low cost by using agricultural wastes like thrashed maize-cobs, locally grew up useless grass and more. For this, we will prepare “Green Bridges” of cobs and grass through which sewage water is to pass for proper treatment. The filtered water will be free of pollutants like lead, arsenic, zinc, aluminum and more.” Kunal also shared that he was also adjudged the best in the year 2013 for his project on ‘Clay-Pipe Irrigation System’. Kunal appreciated their mentors at the university, Dr Madhu Sharma and Er Vivek Srivastava who worked day and night along with to make his team able to have a glorious win.

Congratulating research oriented & hard-working students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: “We are very happy to see that on getting an opportunity our students prove their worth to their connoisseurs and the society. Only a few days back, agriculture students’ team drew maximum attention from the global scientific community. LPU team was the only team which presented innovative solutions for water management and sanitation issues with a focus on water bodies in their immediate vicinity. I feel that the laborious nature, zeal and determination of our students and faculty-members has let them ahead of others.”
