In a first, Dr Anish Kumar of LPU School of Bioengineering and Biosciences, along with his students has done a research on treating polluted industrial wastewater. In their research, they found that Poppy Seed plant can be used to treat waste and polluted water released by the industries, which has harmful metals like Lead and Arsenic. Plants like, Water Cabbage, Umbrella Palm and Poppy Seed plant help in treating the water by absorbing these harmful metals. Water containing these pollutants when consumed is very hazardous and can lead to life-threatening diseases like cancer.
Dr Anish and his students had been working on this research since last 6 months. This easy solution can prove much more beneficial than expensive water treatment plants. The plants can be planted near industries and factories, where the wastewater released by the industries would be treated easily.
