After recording a marvelous national win at Association of Indian Universities’ Softball women championship, Lovely Professional University sportsmen added to this glory by bagging the All India Inter-University Softball (Men) Championship trophy as well. LPU made this win by defeating the University of Calicut, Kerala; Punjab University, Chandigarh, and Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Maharashtra, in the respective league matches.
The LPU team won the championship by 6 points, scoring 2 point wins in each of the league matches. Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) Maharashtra got the second position with 4 points after winning 2 matches; Punjab University, Chandigarh and University of Calicut, Kerala both remained third with 1 Point each after a match between them ended in a draw.
Chief Guest of the Final Day, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal handed over the scintillating trophy to the winning team. General Secretary Punjab Softball Federation Mr PN Passi and National Umpire from Maharashtra Mr Mukul Deshpandey were also present. This year, the championship was held at the LPU Campus, where 75 universities from all across India participated with an aim to grab the coveted trophy. LPU players exhibited fine softball skills even during the knockout- rounds.

Each of the LPU team members was also honoured with gold Medal of the tournament. Ashish Zimpe of Amravati University was declared as the best pitcher of the championship. Congratulating the winner team, LPU Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal said, “We are happy that LPU sportsmen, did not lag behind the women in bringing glory to our university. We are proud to share that maximum players of the winning team belong to professional programs other than physical education. I advise winners to keep up this winning spirit in each and every sphere of their life.”
