Some of the affected came forward to share their challenges, and struggles, and the story of how they learnt to live full lives despite them.

Jalandhar administration and LPU came together on 5 September 2016 to observe Spinal Cord Injury Day at the campus. President SCI Jalandhar Association Parvinder Singh Sonu was also present. A crowd, about 200 strong, gathered to participate in the event, which included an opening ceremony and a 1.5 km rally, organized by NSS, Community Service Cell, Division of Student Affairs, LPU.

Police Commissioner Jalandhar Arvind Shukla, ACP Deepika Singh, DC Jalandhar Komal Kishore, and LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs. Rashmi Mittal opened the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp of hope. The students sung the group songs “itni shakti hamein dena data” and “give me some sunshine” to send out a message of solidarity to those suffering with SCI.

A large number of SCI affected persons and their families were in attendance, some of whom were LPU students, under the special SCI scholarship program run by the University. Some of the affected came forward to share their challenges, and struggles, and the story of how they learnt to live full lives despite them.

It was on this note of inspiration and determination that the rally began. The aim of the rally was to spread SCI awareness among the students and disseminate knowledge on how to assist an SCI affected person. Armed with banners and placards, 150 SCI affected persons in wheelchairs, and many others took to the streets of LPU, and with great enthusiasm, spread their message.
