LPU NSS organized a donation program “Joy of Giving” on 21st Jan 2017 at the Pingalwara orphanage in Jalandhar. Pingalwara is a house for the destitute that consists of an orphanage and a school for mentally challenged people and special children.
40 LPU volunteers visited the orphanage to donate 50kg of wheat flour, 20 kg of rice, 5 kg of daal and some fruits. 300 clothes, shoes, slippers, bags and some packaged food, collected from the students and faculty of Lovely Professional University, were also given away.
The interaction with the inhabitants of the orphanage, the people working there, and the information in the manuals and pamphlets at Pingalwara, made the visit a great learning experience for the young volunteers. It gave them an awareness of government schemes related to the health and welfare of people with mental disorders, and the right way to help them.
