In our day to day life we hear and read about so many people. The stories that impress us, leave a long lasting impact on us, our psyche and the way we transact with the world.

Alok Sagar’s is one such story. His simplicity is what makes him truly remarkable, and a real inspiration.

Alok started his journey from Delhi IIT with a degree in engineering. He did his Masters and Phd from Houston. After these stepping stones, Alok Sagar worked as a Professor at IIT Delhi and groomed numerous students, including Raghuram Rajan, the ex RBI governor.

For the last 32 years, this IIT professor has been living in the remote tribal villages of Madhya Pradesh and serving the people living there. After resigning from his work, Alok started working for tribals in the Betul and Hoshangabad districts of Madhya Pradesh. Currently he resides in Kochamu, a remote village without electricity and roads, that is inhabited by 750 tribals.

Alok believes that people can serve the country better by working at the grassroot level. Instead of proving their intelligence by earning and showing off degrees, India needs smart people working from the roots upward to solve the problems plaguing our nation.

Alok is a living example of selfless service and simplicity. He owns just three sets of kurtas and a cycle, and spends hours upon hours a day collecting and distributing seeds among tribals and in other work to uplift and align them with mainstream India.

Hope you are all as impressed and inspired as I was. Our country needs more Aloks.
