Student organization Tachyons – Gear Up Your Passion organized “Words on Fire”, a debate and extempore competition on 15th and 16th February in Block 13 of Lovely Professional University.
The participants were grouped in teams of two. The event was conducted in two rounds, the first one being a Debate competition, in which the registered participants were given a set of topics to prepare before the event, while the second round was Extempore.
As there were multiple teams in the first round, two teams competed at a time, one of which spoke in favour of the given topic, and the other team spoke against it. Some teams got eliminated, and the remaining teams made it to the Extempore round. It was made sure that every participant got individual feedback. “The Demons” won the competition. The second position was bagged by “Dream Crushers”, and “Starks” came third.
Tachyons is a new student organization in the university and this event gave them a great start. The event was successful as it brought out the debating and speaking skills of the participants in an interesting way. According to the founder of Tachyons, Pooja Iyer, a student, the most difficult part was creating a “Team”, a team that would not only be pronounced as a team, but would also work like one. Tachyons is planning to do more events in the near future. They aim to work towards the welfare of students and polishing their talents by conducting more such events.
